The “Tribute In Light” is a commemorative public art installation that has been a New York tradition since 2002. It has become an “iconic symbol that both honors those killed and celebrates the unbreakable spirit of New York.” In the display, two powerful light beams are projected four miles into the sky, mirroring the Twin Towers. On a clear night, it can be seen from a 60-mile radius around Manhattan.
This year, on the 19th anniversary of the attack, concerns of the coronavirus has altered several plans originally set to take place. The 9/11 Memorial and Museum organization has coordinated buildings across NYC to all become “Tributes In Light” by lighting up their facades and spires in blue.
In collaboration with NYC & Company, the museum hopes the participation of so many iconic New York landmarks will “inspire the world and honor the promise to never forget.” A short list of the participating buildings include the Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, the Bank of America Tower, and the Times Square Ball.
Seubert, along with several of our neighbors on the North Shore of Pittsburgh, are joining in on the effort to pay our respects. On Friday, September 11, 2020 the Seubert Lights will shine bright blue to memorialize those we lost and honor the heroism of Americans during the tragic events.
